Crazy as this may sound; people of Perth are all too familiar with the notion that there is nowhere decent to eat after 10pm…unless you’re willing to subject your insides to some toxic terrors of the night, from the midnight kebab to the classic quarter pounder. Either of these options doesn’t always guarantee a happy ending. It was music to my ears when I was enlightened with the news of a new place opening called, Darlings Supper Club. Better yet, it’s open until 3am every day — say what?! It was then when I knew my late night fix, could be …well, fixed!

The contemporary restaurant is located on Lake Street near the hub of Northbridge nightlife –location, location. Owner, Andy Freeman has over 20 years’ experience in the hospitality sector and you might already be familiar with his bars, Luxe Bar and the oh-so-fresh Varnish on King. This guy knows his stuff.
Upon walking in you are welcomed by the smells of sesame and seasoned woks with the sights of stacked bamboo steamers and warm smiles. The ambience is chilled but edgy with all of the raw brick walls juxtaposed with leather studded booths and matte black table settings. I loved the rock and roll music tunes flowing throughout the restaurant; it is the cherry on top of this east meets west fusion.
The menu offered an array of Asian dishes that were all shareable, from gourmet dumplings to even a delectable Malabar Lamb Curry. If you are in the mood for something sweet there are a couple of beautifully presented desserts that will whet your appetite. For those who are crazy and just want a drink…one, what is wrong with you? Two, you can choose from an extensive beverage list including cocktails, wine, Asian beers and spirits. I was even surprised to see that Umeshu Choya made the list---totes impressed! If you are a die-hard Sake fan, you’ll be excited to know that it is available on tap ($3 for 45ml) along with the choice of some rare brands ranging from $11 -$22 for 45ml. They’re even kind enough not to zap it in the microwave, thanks to Mr. Roboto.
The food was exquisite and authentically delicious! Credit to Executive Chef, David Allison; Head Chef, Nick Kent and Pastry Chef, Brendan Ownes. Thanks so much for the invitation, I’ll be back for more dumplings and that Snickers dessert that I missed out on with a friend on each arm to let the good times roll.
