“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” ― Coco Chanel
A few nights ago was the opening night of the brand spanking new Mekel studio at Bayview Centre in Claremont. This quaint space was acquainted with creatives and fashion aficionados from all over Perth, supporting the humble artist, Kelly Coates. Her works gained momentum a mere two years ago and started designing for Urban Walkabout guides, along with some exclusive mural designs for the Betts stores (haha, I was there to see it from the get-go). Her latest designs have been officially debuted on the fresh Betts shoes boxes, and there is much more to come.....shhh, it's still under wraps.
My fave local artist, Pippa McManus even dropped by. I enjoyed a quick catch up and drink with her---what a sweetie, love her! Kelly aka Mekel and I, posing for a snap
I loved the colourful space, filled with beautiful flower arrangements with the soothing waves of tunes spilling in the background, thanks to DJ Beni Chill. The delicious treats were supplied by Cookies Dough, my highlight was the citrus sponge cake squares with rosewater icing...I think I had about five of these--guilty as charged! Accompanying these bites were some freshly shaken French Martinis, crafted by Cocktail Gastronomy. It has inspired me to create some of these concoctions at my next (imaginary) dinner party.
As usual, I was one of last to vacate the party which is always a sign that it was an enjoyable night. I purchased one of Kelly's framed artworks for my desk at work (the photo above). She's a delight to talk to and I wish her the best of luck for her cute new studio, can't wait to visit her and see what new works she's undertaking.
