Cocktails are my usual choice when I go out, they're easy to drink and let's be honest...they're pretty darn sexy. Who doesn't love the thought of a well dressed woman with a icy cold martini on hand? I was excited to be invited to test drive the Luxe Bar Cocktail Masterclass, along with a few awesome bloggers last Friday night--they had me at canapés and cocktails. It was a night of fun and laughter and some mixology education.
Fact: Did you know that cocktails were originally a non-alcoholic mixture of: spirits, sugar, water, and bitters; it was only in the 1860s that liqueur was introduced to the combo.
The birth of Luxe Bar was in the Summer of 2001, throughout the years it has received national and international acclaim. It was even voted one of the Best Bars in Australia by Bartender Magazine-- indeed a milestone for any niche bar. Learning about the art of mixology inspired me to create these executions at home, I was making a mental list of all the ingredients that I need to get in order to craft these for my friends, family...and myself.

Blogger Punch - Created by AndyWe took turns to get crafty with our skills, my first drink that I formulated was the Luxe Jungle Bird. For me, this was like having a sweeter version of a Negroni. This was partly because of the Campari, but it would make a great aperitif as the sour tang of the pineapple makes your mouth water. I admit that before I knew it, I was left with a numb hand from all the shaking and a glass full of ice--I was a little enthusiastic. Walk The Plank - Johnnie Walker Double Black & Del Maguey Vida Mezcal
An element of spectatorship was introduced as Andy whipped out the blowtorch and commenced his mini inferno by burning a bourbon soaked cedar plank, then a chilled glass is placed over the flame upside down acting like a bell-jar. This drink with a smokey embrace is aimed at a distinguished palate, it is not for the faint at heart. It has a masculine resonance through the dominant presence of Johnnie Walker Double Black and Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, you can read more about the Mexican beverage, here. If you love bold, hickory bitterness--shiver me timber, this one has your name on it. Luxe Espresso Martini -Illyquore coffee liqueur, Chocolate créme de cacao, Ketel One Vodka
The finale and my favourite part of the evening was creating the iconic Luxe Espresso Martini, featuring the Luxe secret syrup...I think I have it figured out but some experimentation is required. This is my staple cocktail that I love to order, I have tried the cognac alternative (great for Winter) but my heart still lies with the vodka classic. This weekend I will be sourcing these ingredients and attempting this bad boy...maybe I'll even top it off with a dollop of vanilla bean créme.
Thank you Andy and Sacha for teaching us some of your skills and DGPR for the generous invite, I will be back for more drinks and fun soon. If you're an avid lover of classy and chic beverages, Luxe is the place for you. A lush venue with low lighting, intimate seating, talented mixologists and a brimming bar. It's not rocket science which makes it a popular choice for a sassy Sunday night out.
