Look no further than Sweet Belem for your Portugasm. Nandos can take a hike, especially when you get a load of their mother-of-a-tart. Honestly, after having some mediocre portuguese tarts in my lifetime, it was going to take more than some crumbly pastry to persuade me. The minute I stepped foot into the quaint doorstep at the Petersham residence, I was immediately encapsulated with the sights and sounds of Portugal. From the array of cakes to the assortment of pastries, I didn't know where to begin! Of course, I ordered what I came for --the portuguese tart. For lunch, I ordered a quiche and to top it off a custard palmier. All in all, it was death by dessert.
The portuguese tart is absolutely divine; from it's flaky, buttery outer shell to it's decedent and yet so light, creamy custard filling--this ticked all the boxes of perfection. It is without a doubt that Sweet Belem are pastry perfectionists. If you're ever in the Petersham area, this is a gem that is worth every dime.
